Citrix Receiver 4.4.1 WFICA32.exe HDX Engine Crash When Connecting to a XenApp 5 Farm

Environmentals Receiver 4.4.1, Storefront 3.5, pass through authentication to published applications on a XenApp 5 farm, launched from a XenApp 6.5 published desktop.

Error Citrix HDX Engine has stopped working.

Symptoms When a published application to 32 bit applications in the XenApp 5 farm was launched, the Citrix receiver would crash. Connections to the XenApp 6.5 farm were unaffected. The problem was intermittent across user accounts, some users remained unaffected. The issue was spread across the large XenApp 6.5 published desktops and was intermittent.

Resolution Disable Client Graphics Settings via group policy. The hardware acceleration settings in the Receiver 4.4.x seem to be unreliable with XenApp 5. To work out which individual setting is causing the issue, edit receiver.admx and you can find the relevant registry keys. Search for:
